Ksamil is a small coastal village in southern Albania, opposite the northern end of the Greek Island of Corfu. It is also one of the most frequented coastal resorts, both by domestic and foreign tourists. It is located south of the city of Saranda, off the road to Butrint.
The ancient ruins of Butrint are located about 11 miles south of Saranda and are of special interest if you are into interesting insights into ancient world ruins. Virgil claimed that the Trojans settled Butrint, but no evidence of this has yet been found, and the site has been pored over by archaeologists trying to prove it.
Treasure hunters from lifted many of the antiquities before the war, but most have since been returned and are on display at the National Museum of History in Tirana. Greeks settled Butrint during the 6th century BC, although the area had been settled long before by the Illyrians.
Butrint, ancient Buthrotum, lies in south-west , 20 km south of the modern port of of Saranda. Its location is spectacular: the ancient city occupies a bluff of land protruding into the Vivari channel, a stretch of water which today connects the Straits of Corfu, 4 km west of Butrint, to the inland salt-water Lake Butrint.
